With the city of Syracuse's decision to demolish I-81, major transformations are expected to follow. The initiative aims to create a more inclusive and stable community, with housing projects playing a crucial role in fostering this vision.
The main circulation route follows the inner courtyard via a single-loaded corridor that provides access to each room. As hallways become populated, they transform into communal spaces, embracing the complexities of shared living rather than avoiding them. Additionally, an exterior balcony wraps around the entire building, encouraging outdoor interaction. Each unit includes three points of entry: a main door and two sliding glass doors. The sliding glass doors can be opened to further integrate private spaces with the public corridor, allowing the corridor to serve as more than just a passageway.
Beyond the four residential floors, the ground floor offers amenities designed to support healthy living. A gym, daycare, café, and workspace provide opportunities for the public to engage with the housing community, fostering a healthier and more connected lifestyle.
