Industrial

This project, located along the Erie Canal in Syracuse, functions as both a Water Purification Facility and a Recreation Center. The architectural design utilizes a modular system based on interlocking rectangles of standardized sizes.
The focal point of the project is the central pool, which transforms seasonally—serving as a skating rink in winter and a swimming pool in summer. This dual-purpose feature provides year-round recreational activities for families. The pool is surrounded by buildings and walkways, creating a continuous circulation path around a central café. Visitors enter the building on the second floor, where the circulation flows seamlessly through the interior and extends outward, guiding movement via rooftop gardens and stone pathways.
The facility incorporates a comprehensive water treatment process. Water is drawn from the canal and circulated underground through three constructed indoor pools before being filtered in the wetlands. Once purified, the water is channeled into the central pool, making it safe and ready for recreational use.
This cohesive design merges functionality with aesthetics, resulting in a dynamic space that promotes environmental sustainability while fostering community engagement.
